A framework agreement between IRD and WASCAL to support Research on the development of Climate Services, a lever for the development of West Africa

Actualité

Climate services play an important role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and reducing the risk of disasters. As part of the Paris Agreement, their development provides products and useful tools to support the decision and adaptation and mitigation policies for sustainable development.

On the sidelines of the African Union - European Union Summit held in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) in the week of 27 to November 30, 2017, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d’Ivoire organized a Workshop on Climate Services, to reaffirm the role of research stakeholders in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and in the combat against the adverse effects of climate change and for the emergence of Côte d’Ivoire.

Organized at the Pôle Scientifique et d’Innovation, the Bingerville Campus of the Félix Houphouët Boigny University, this workshop brought together about fifty participants from the university and research institutions and development stakeholders.

At the end of the discussions, a strategic partnership agreement to support research activities for the development of climate services was signed between the Institute of Research for Development (IRD, France) and WASCAL (West African Science Service Center) on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, funded by Germany), in partnership with African research institutions.
