Research Interests
My research investigates the cycling of mercury and other contaminants, with a focus on polar and tropical environments. I seek to understand how exchanges between the atmosphere and ecosystems control the transport, transformation and fate of mercury, and how these processes respond to climate change and human pressures.
At the Institut des Géosciences de l’Environnement, I combine long-term atmospheric observations, field campaigns and process studies with modelling. My work in polar and subantarctic regions examines mercury cycling across the atmosphere, snow, ice and ocean interfaces. In tropical regions, I investigate how vegetation uptake, atmospheric dynamics and re-emission determine whether ecosystems act as lasting mercury sinks. These observations help evaluate and improve models used to assess the effects of climate, land-use change and anthropogenic emissions on atmospheric mercury.
Through international collaborations and observation networks including the Global Observation System for Mercury (GOS4M), my research also contributes to monitoring mercury on a global scale and evaluating the effectiveness of the Minamata Convention. Beyond mercury, I contribute to research on atmospheric microplastics and the interactions between microorganisms and atmospheric chemistry.
