Climate Change and Post Wildfire Debris-Flow Hazards

---
Wildfires are occurring with increased frequency, size, and impacts throughout the world, but the western United States is especially hard hit.  In addition to the destruction caused directly by the fires, the changes they induce in hydrology, erosion potential, and landscape processes lead to a drastic increase in debris flow hazards.  An addition component driving this process is a changing climate, which affects the frequency and intensity of initiating rainstorms.  This presentation will show how these effects can be quantified to better understand the debris flow process, and then project changes over the next 50 years to show how hazards would increase for a specific community in southern California, USA.
