Monte Tronador a glaciological laboratory for the Northern Patagonian Andes

Séminaire de Lucas Ruiz (Argentine), mercredi 2 octobre à 15h, salle Lliboutry, bât. de Glaciologie

Summary : Due to the beauty and accessibility of Monte Tronador, their glaciers have been widely studied in the last 60 years. Their glaciers have been the focus of paleoclimatic studies, glacier hazards analysis, and glacier monitoring programs. Since 2013 their glaciers have been continuous monitoring in the context of the IANIGLA monitoring program related to the Glacier Law of Argentina. In this talk, a summary of the regional importance of these glaciers and later findings in terms of glacier mass balance, ice dynamics and future mass change projection will be presented.
