Most glaciers around the world are losing volume due to global warming. At the current rate, they are projected to disappear completely at the end of the 21st century for those located below 3,500 meters altitude in the Alps, and 5,400 meters in the Andes. The international project ICE MEMORY aims to document and save ice cores from threatened glaciers on sites of major interest (Col du Dôme at Mont Blanc, Illimani in Bolivia, Elbrouz in the Caucasus, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Mera in Nepal ...). It will produce a database of major geochemical markers, and support the analytical development of specific tracers on the PANDA analytical platform.
